Styliani Gerakari, MD, PhD is a senior physician and healthcare leader at the G.H. of Piraeus “Tzaneio”, Greece. She serves as Head Director of the Emergency Department since May 2019 and as Deputy Director of Medical Services since February 2022. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led both the COVID-19 and Emergency Medicine Departments at “Tzaneio” and previously headed the COVID-19 Department at the G.H. of West Attica “Agia Varvara”. Dr. Gerakari holds a PhD from the University of Athens, with her doctoral research entitled “The effect of coinfection by hepatotropic and hepatomimetic viruses in physical evolution of chronic HBV and HCV hepatitis” and has additional research training in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (Department of Internal Medicine and Hepatogastroenterology Research Laboratory, University of Albert Szent Gyorgi Szeged, Hungary). She is highly active in academic medicine, with 26 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 129 national and international conference presentations, and frequent invited speaker roles. Her contributions also include clinical protocol development, journal reviewing, and medical education leadership. She currently serves as the Chair of the Education Committee of the Scientific Council and as the General Medicine Resident Training Coordinator at the G.H. of Piraeus “Tzaneio”.
