Emmanouil Pikoulis is the President of the Hellenic Surgical Society, Vice President of WSES, Professor of Surgery, Dean of the School of Health Sciences (2021-2024), Head of the 3rd Department of Surgery (U.G.H. “Attikon”) (2018-2025), School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He started his surgical specialization at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA, and then he continued to serve as Faculty Member and Assistant Professor of Surgery at USUHS, Bethesda, Maryland, USA, where he serves until now as Adjunct Professor. He also serves as Adjunct Professor in Catastrophe Emergency Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland. His areas of expertise include general and acute surgery. He leads a multidisciplinary international network of physicians, other healthcare professionals and social scientists to develop educational curricula and conduct research on acute and disaster medicine and management as well as global health. He was awarded with the first European Jean Monnet chair in humanitarian medicine and response and the European Jean Monnet chair in Peacebuilding Health Diplomacy. He has published more than 250 articles in international peer-reviewed journals. He has presented extensively on topics related to trauma and acute surgery as well as disaster management training both nationally and internationally and he is the editor, co-editor, author and co-author of more than 15 books in the aforementioned scientific fields.
